While my wife, Aimee, and I were visiting family in Canada for Christmas, we got a wonderful surprise—Aimee was pregnant. We shared the news with our family and celebrated the holidays together. But during our checkup in early January, the doctor wasn’t able to find the baby’s heartbeat.
That was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with in my entire life. I had never felt the amount of pain I felt in that situation. I never had this love that was completely gone and taken away from me. But I realized that in that pain and suffering I had to make a choice.
Is God still good?
I felt like the answer had to be yes, so I just started saying it over and over again. “God, you’re good to us. You’re so, so good to us.”
There were moments I felt like just crying, but I knew I had to push through and continue to thank God for being good. In that state of running out of places to go and emotions to feel, I sat down and wrote the song, Dreams Awaken.
I wrote Dreams Awaken to show that even when you feel like you’ve lost, you need to continue to sing out how good God is until you believe it. I didn’t have any reason to say it. But I just kept saying it, because it’s true. It’s not going to stop being true, regardless of my circumstances, because He’s good.
We will get through this because God is good.
We will persevere because God is good.
I kept going because I knew God is in the business of keeping His promises. And after years of waiting, we learned that Aimee was pregnant again.
Whenever you feel like you have no hope inside of you and you’re wondering how God is ever going to pull it off. He’s going to pull it off. Keep going. Keep persevering. God is good.
